Secret Garden at The Ivy Chelsea

image (1)

The Ivy Chelsea

Hidden behind an alluring flowery façade is an elegantly British casual dining experience. Located on Kings Road, a short walk from Sloane Square in London, The Ivy offers a relaxing break from the regular, boring restaurant experiences & offers an element of surprise & charm to dining.

With its large display windows bordered by dark green frames, tinted glass windows, fresh fragrant flower arrangements. The Ivy engages all of your senses almost instantly .

As you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a well stocked sweeping bar wrapped snug in rustic woody dark interiors. Make sure you have a reservation in place as this place fills up quickly -weekdays & weekends alike .Do not hesitate to make a polite request at the Reservation desk if you don’t have a booking in place. As the outdoor seating area is the most sought after- you may not get it at the last minute so stay flexible.

The restaurant, bar and café inside have an aura of approachable sophistication and familiar luxury. Outside area has an extensive garden, complete with a terrace and orangery.

Ivy is an all weather place , Perfect to enjoy the warmth of Bonfires during winters & the freshness of  Pimms during summers.

The Ivy has its cosy little corners to enjoy a romantic meal  & it is big enough to accommodate a large group . No matter what the mood – you are bound to find your favourite spot at The Ivy.

Lunch time is extremely busy at The Ivy so be prepared to wait. I walked in without a reservation & was lucky enough to get a table outside. Pictures don’t do justice to the food and the overall experience I had. Make a reservation and experience dining with a difference.

The Ivy Chelsea Garden is an amalgamation of sophisticated & casual British dining experience & serves an extensive all-day menu of fresh food and great tasting cocktails.

Freshly baked crusted sourdough bread with salted butter

Curious IPA beer – a great recommendation by the bar staff.

The traditional terraced area is designed beautifully to create daylight-flooded dining space.

Thick cut chips  – Best I have ever had!

Grilled chicken salad  Quinoa salad with avocado and kohlrabi, pomegranate, toasted pump

Prettiest Cappucino cup !

Warm fruited scone with Cornish clotted cream and strawberry preserve .

Wasn’t too impressed with the clotted cream – I like the fluffy , gooey ones 🙂

Ivy is a perfect place to celebrate life’s beautiful moments and special occasions . It truly deserves to be on top of your ‘Restaurants to visit in London ‘ list.

‘Tis the reason to be jolly – Forest on the Roof -Restaurant & Bar – Selfridges

xmas decor

London is glowing !  Christmas trees & festive lights have engulfed the streets, shops & homes across the city & it surely feels like Christmas . Dark gloomy rainy days & sunsets at 4 pm fail to dampen the  festive spirits of Londoners & tourists. High streets & showrooms are flooded with Christmas gift shoppers, Indulgence in Retail therapy works even better during this season & its a sure shot way to beat winter blues.

rooftop selfridges

Shopping has become the modern equivalent of visiting museums  & people from all walks of life gravitate towards Selfridges , the store has the ability to turn a non shopper{ like my husband } into an admirer & shopper of  ‘all things exclusive’. This trip to Selfridges was part retail part food indulgence . It was an afternoon out with my dear friend Gayatri who is glowing & brimming with energy & all set to welcome her little bundle of joy.

rooftop logo

The rooftop terrace area at The Selfridges is multi faceted- the restaurant is a Pop up as theme changes every season. Pop up restaurants are quickly becoming an alternative to traditional dining out, it offers something different every time & versatility is the name of the game  !  When I visited Selfridges Rooftop in July this year, the restaurant theme was Beach. This time around it is converted into a magical forest with an ambient archway of fairy lights , silver twigs , pine cones & snowy berries .

The lights guide you to the main restaurant with rustic wooden effect all across  .The scent of cinnamon & figs transport you to an enchanted dreamland.

Think cosy corners,  soft woollen throws, log fires and sumptuous interiors. That’s what Forest Restaurant & Rooftop Bar at The Selfridges offers !

Although the restaurant was packed , the staff at the restaurant found a perfect spot for us : a quiet, round table tucked into a cozy corner . Perfect setting !

The menu is not very extensive although their afternoon tea selection is to die for. We managed to find something for my friend who is a vegetarian. She ordered a portion of seasoned chips & Truffled Mushroom Risotto minus the truffles & the staff happily obliged . I always make an effort to eat healthy whenever I dine out. I ordered a roasted parsnip & cider soup with a forest leaf salad with cheese, walnut & pear dressing.

parsnip soup

The sight of chunky sizzling seasoned potatoes got the better of me & I gave into the temptation. The soup was delicious , the salad- well after enjoying a bowl of fried chips, I just could not relish it !

terrace outside

After hours of chirping & chatting we decided to explore the outside deck & we were pleasantly surprised- beautiful wooden huts to snuggle up & an outside seating area with soft cuddly throws for that added warmth & comfort.

Forest restaurant & Bar at the Rooftop- Selfridges is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks over looking the iconic London skyline.

The drinks menu at The Forest is perfect to warm you up with Truffle martinis, Smokey & sours and Gingerbread choctails along with Pumpkin ale, a bespoke winter wine list and London craft beers.

dedicated lift

There is a dedicated express lift to get to the Rooftop Forest & its located near the fragrance hall on the ground floor. So head out to the busiest & the most glamorous shopping mecca in central London & enjoy the festivities ..Merry Xmas everyone !

Penhaligon’s, London – Iconic British Perfume House

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

xmas gift penhaligons

Let’s be honest here – we have all encountered those awkward situations where we are expected to appreciate predictable & repetitive gifts. In my case , I am more thoughtful in choosing gifts for others but my luck runs out while receiving them !  So I began to wonder, what gift would be the best for me & for my loved ones? Is there a list that can be thoughtfully created& shared? So I decided to go a step further and created a section on my blog to help all those who struggle to find the perfect gift !

Tried & tested gift ideas – a bottle of Perfume or a selection of scented candles?  Sounds great but with a plethora of options on the High street, which one is The One for my mom? or for my best friend ? or for my Mother in law? Three different personalities with completely different tastes. It’s hard to please everyone with one single answer. It makes choosing the perfect Perfume bottle or candles even more complicated. So how about a buying it from a company that has been developing fragrances for well over 100 years, holds the heritage of two royal warrants & caters to exclusive tastes?

Penhaligon’s is an English perfume house. It was founded in the late 1860s by William Henry Penhaligon, a Cornish barber who moved to London & became Court Barber and Perfumer to Queen Victoria. The earliest Penhaligon’s perfume edition was created in 1870 and the newest is from 2015. Penhaligon’s exclusivity lies in its finest & rarest ingredients; from hand-squeezed bergamot, to jasmine at twice the price of gold !

penhaligons window

Warrants have always been regarded as demonstrating excellence and quality, and are highly prized. Penhaligon’s are the holders of two Royal Warrants. It is a mark of recognition to individuals or companies who have supplied goods or services for at least five years to HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh or HRH The Prince of Wales.

A few tips on unlocking preferences: before shopping for Perfumes, take a look at scents you’ve loved and worn in the past.  Also look at the other products you use – the  creams & candles you frequently buy, your preferred hand & body wash fragrance – these can all point towards a preference for a certain fragrance family, such as musky , floral or citrus. Similarly collate all these details when you are planning to buy it as a gift. You can share this information with the in-shop sales assistant, who can show you some fragrances as per the characteristics shared by you. After carefully listening to my likes & dislikes – Penhaligons staff at their Covent garden store recommended Blasted Bloom to me :  a free-spirited landscape where the energy and majesty of the Sea meets the natural richness of the Land. It cuts across age barriers, its versatile, fresh & invigorating.

I almost thought I had found my fragrance until I tried out Artemisia..

A very delicate, feminine fragrance. Wonderfully light with powdery florals and the creamy warmth of vanilla with a hint of jasmine, violets& lily of the valley. Artemisia is a beautifully silky fragrance, inspired by romantic tales from Greek … and named in honour of Artemis, the Goddess of the hunt whose symbol was the Moon.

If you appreciate subtle feminine notes, Artemisia is the fragrance for you. Perfect for day and evening. Highly addictive! The bottles for Penhaligon’s scents are based on William Penhaligon’s original design – clear glass and adorned with a ribbon.

A well-chosen gift from Penhaligon’s is truly a thoughtful one. It never fails to delight a lady. Whatever the occasion; a birthday, anniversary or other special date, there is a pleasing range of expertly selected items to choose from.

How about gifting an assortment of Little Luxuries to your Bestie? No not chocolates, I’m talking about Classic Scented Candles 🙂

Nothing creates an atmosphere quite like the flickering flame of a candle. Luxury scented candles make the perfect gift for a variety of occasions . Whether you’re celebrating your best friend’s birthday, a wedding, Mother’s Day or just want to treat someone you love with an exquisite gift, a Penhaligon’s candle lets you speak from the heart.

Panhaligon’s candles are a luxurious formulation of essential oils and blended wax that ensure the scent is given subtly and consistently for up to 30 hours. Heavenly ! Penhaligon’s classic candle collection is essential for cosying up when the dark nights draw in.

These luxurious candles are packed with essential oils, made with a naturally derived soy wax and are hand-blended for a superior burn time. To ensure an even and smoke-free burn, the wick should be trimmed to a length of 1/4 inch each time before lighting.

Elixir classic candle is my personal favourite from the Penhaligon’s range. Hot spices, green eucalyptus, Turkish rose and jasmine combine with incense and woods to create this heady fragrance perfect for the colder winter months. This candle produces the most exquisite incense like aromas. They are not overpowering, just a joy to be in the house when one of these is burning.

penhaligon men

In the latest edition of the lifestyle magazine Conde’ Nast, I read about David Beckham’s love for candles. Did you know he carries his favourite one in his suitcase wherever he travels ? Many companies are introducing a candle range exclusively for Men by carefully selecting fragrance notes specific to the male perspective . So would you gift candles to a Man? Do share your thoughts in the comment box below.

Laduree’ – Quaint Parisian Tea Salon

London weather has taken us all by surprise! We are enjoying an extended Indian Summer & the warmer weather is expected to stay till mid October. When the weather’s looking good, nothing beats dining Al Fresco . So I head out to Covent Garden – overly touristy yet refreshingly charming marketplace in Central London. On a sunny day – Laduree – a Parisian style Tea Salon is the best place to enjoy a glass of champagne or a cup of Tea while watching the miming and juggling street acts in Covent Garden.

Ladurée { pronounced  lah/dew/ray } is a French luxury bakery and sweets maker house established in the year 1862.  Covent Garden – Ladurée is the patisserie’s first stand-alone tea salon in London, serving savoury snacks and champagne, sweet treats & signature macarons .

Laduree’ is spread over 2 floors & is split into several areas with plenty of  cosy seating inside, at the terrace overlooking St Paul’s Church & right on Covent garden’s world famous Piazza/ market place.

Soak up the sun & Enjoy people watching & street acts from the terrace .

IMG_2910 (2)

St Paul’s Church on one side, Jubilee Hall Market on the other, views from Laduree’ terrace are extremely engaging . Covent Garden’s Jubilee Hall Market sells everything from antiques to food, arts and crafts to souvenirs. Hop across to the Jubilee Market & indulge in some retail therapy after enjoying a Parisian style afternoon session with friends & family at Laduree.

Parisians are all about class, style, elegance, and finesse ! The interiors are Beautifully crafted, & thoughtfully designed . Laduree’ menu is simple yet has a Parisian flair to it . A toned-down & minimalist design effectively conveys a sense of elegance.

The all buttoned-up attire of the Laduree Staff added a subtle Parisian sophistication to the place.

Prepared in a small kitchen by a head chef brought over from Paris, the hot & cold dishes are put together with skill. Presentation is everything. My Concorde Salad emerges as a huge bowl carefully wrapped in cucumber slices with spinach shoots & grilled chicken fillet on top , glazed lightly with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing!

Assortment of traditional bread served with Laduree’s very own Butter

Café Ladurée Crème –  Signature coffee .  I will be definitely going back for this !

Fresh Raspberry Tarte – Passion Framboise , Sweet pastry, smooth passion fruit cream.  Delicate both in flavor & texture with a lush creamy filling !

Ladurée are best known for its macaroons, millefeuilles {pronounced meel-foy)  and tartes. Did you know Laduree’ is one of the top premier sellers of the double-decker macaron, fifteen thousand of which are sold every day !

The legendary macarons are delicious and sinful. The orange blossom macaroons are my favourite.

Give the quintessentially British Afternoon Tea a touch of Parisian chic with Laduree’s latest collection of teapots and teacups. The new all-porcelain range is available in three charming prints, decorated in gold with either rosebuds, floral prints or butterflies. To host a memorable tea party, all you need to add is a sumptuous selection of macaroons.

Cobbled streets add character & old world charm to the entire Covent Garden market place.

Immerse yourself in Covent Garden’s vibrant atmosphere at a table on the cobbled Piazza, or grab a comfy seating corner inside or reserve a table on the bijou-Parisian-style balcony overlooking St Paul’s Church. Deciding on where to sit & what to drink or eat is going to be a tough one here at Laduree – you will be spoilt for choice !

Laduree is well located to enjoy the best that this exciting city has to offer. This quaint little Parisian Tea Salon is perfectly placed for shopping & theatre, Teas & Treats !

Radio Rooftop Bar- It will leave you spellbound!

Located on the 10th floor of Hotel ME – London, accessible via a dedicated express lift, Radio is the only rooftop bar, lounge & terrace in the Strand & Aldwych area to be open throughout the day till 2AM (Thursday – Saturday).

The rooftop bar RADIO has opened where the former BBC building – Marconi House was situated . BBC first began regularly broadcasting in 1922 in Marconi house, hence the name Radio .

Fresh air & open spaces blend to perfection in a comfortable and youthful atmosphere . RADIO boasts awe inspiring views of London’s skyline& is ideal for tapas and drinks with sights that touch the sky . You can enjoy panoramic views of Tower Bridge, the Shard, London Bridge, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Tate Modern, Somerset House, Southbank, London Eye, Houses of Parliament and the theatre district of Covent Garden.I’m not going to spend much time telling you what to eat or drink at RADIO .This post is going to be just a photo essay of what I saw, experienced and loved !

radio pictures

I have read many reviews about RADIO & other popular places in London on issues like entry refusal by staff & rude behaviour towards walk-in guests. I try & follow these 3 simple steps & they work like a charm ..well almost every time !

#Make a call – even if its at the last minute, call your chosen venue beforehand & check if they are accepting walk- in guests. Don’t hesitate to make a request- Its your birthday, anniversary or a special date- how will they know if you won’t tell? So speak up & don’t forget to ask for the call attendants name. Send them a Thank you note once you are at the venue 🙂

#Be polite – Politeness works in most all situations. You don’t have to always drop names or pull strings to get through that door , a polite but firm request works equally well.

#Dress Code- Whether we like it or not, how we look and how we dress affects how we are perceived by others. Its important to dress up as per the venue code. Wear Trendy & Smart Casual -The key is to add polish, whether it be a closed toe-shoe or a blazer. Being well dressed is a beautiful form of politeness & is bound to get you through the toughest of doors.

# Go early or Be prepared to wait – The best time to hit a high end club  in London is between 6pm – 7 pm. If you can not start your night early, then be patient & get ready to wait in long queues. There is a reason why everyone wants to get in there so imagine what lies beyond that door & all your waiting will be worth it !

Chilled out during the day and a party place at night. With a DJ spinning the tunes at volume, RADIO is the perfect venue for those who want to enjoy their drinks with some great music & astonishing views !

So which is your favourite Rooftop Bar in London ? Share your experiences on the comment box below.

Aesop Resurrection Duet – A Perfect Gift for Her

” Our eyes are the windows to our soul & our hands are the beacons which betray our real age.”

I discovered AESOP brand inside the powder room of a stunning restaurant- HUSH, located in the heart of Mayfair, London. It was the prettiest ladies room ever, oozing Luxury from all corners. I instantly fell in love with the Hand wash & Hand cream duo. My hands felt soft & velvety, it worked like magic on my neglected hands .{ I must admit that I haven’t always taken the best care of my mitts.}  I searched on the internet and found Selfridges as the leading retail store for AESOP   & so i trotted to Selfridges & bought the Aesop duo as a gift for myself & for my Mom 🙂

A little background about the brand Aesop – It was established in Melbourne in 1987.  Aesop creates a wide range of superlative products for skin, hair and body care.  {For more brand & product range related information , please visit AESOP website }

‘After the face, hands are the second most visible tell-tale sign of one’s age,’ says Dr Roxanne, president elect of the American Society for Plastic Surgeons.  Your hands experience the same amount of exposure as your face yet they are often the most neglected. Ageing creeps up on you, so the earlier you start looking after your skin the better.

A delightful duo to cleanse and care for the hands

Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash has a clear gel texture & smells divine with notes of lavender & herbaceous . My skin instantly felt cleansed. rejuvenated & refreshed . Repeated washing, particularly with liquid soaps, strips the hands of their natural oils leaving them dry and rough. You’ll love Aesop hand wash as it doesn’t dry out the skin & leaves it soft & supple .

Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm is a beautifully scented hand cream with Lavender & herbaceous Aromas. The concentrated Hand Balm provides a sheer, protective buffer & coats the skin effortlessly, thus making it a deliciously irresistible, almost addictive treat for the hands!

aesop review

Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash & Hand Balm duo is a very thoughtful gift for my mom and yours, or for any of the wonderful women in your life . So buy one & let them know that you care ; as your hands are the first part of the body to age and most of us often forget about giving them nourishment.

Do you have a favorite Hand cream gift box that you’ve received? I’d love to hear about it!

Mo Cafe & Terrace – Moroccan Magic meets Parisian style

Heddon Street, London, Mo cafe
Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Its Friday yet again. I am out on the streets , in search of  The perfect  spot .  My Friday night escapade has to be an amalgamation of Music, Food & Alfresco.  I stumble upon Mo Cafe while on a walking expedition across one of the busiest shopping areas of London- Regent Street.

mo outside

Mo cafe & Terrace is tucked away , down the alley on Heddon Street. It’s perfect, a ‘tranquil haven’ amidst the bustling madness of Central London.

Mo offers a Gastronomic Journey through North Africa ! The Maghreb, the northernmost part of Africa along the Mediterranean Sea is composed of the countries of Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia. The region has a high degree of geographic, political, social, economic and cultural diversity which influences the region’s cuisine & the culinary style.

My heart skips a beat when i see beautifully adorned outdoor seating arrangements. The modern Moroccan inspired decor gives Mo Cafe & Terrace a subtle Parisian character. Not at all lush or showy.

mo seats

Best time to fully experience Mo Cafe is between 5 pm – 6 pm. You will get to enjoy some time alone or with friends before the weekend crowd hits the ground. Outdoor seating is much sought after as the evening progresses, so try & grab a table before the bells ring. The staff is extremely courteous & accommodating therefore do not hesitate to share your seating preferences with them.

momo2 seating

London is completely unpredictable when it comes to weather. So the best bet is to opt for rain safe , wind safe, fully heated outdoor seating areas. Thankfully Mo cafe is completely weather proof .

bordeaux wine mo cafe.jpg

Its time to fire-up the evening now that we have found our perfect watering hole !  We order ‘Pomerol’, a much respected red wine appellation from the Bordeaux region of south western France.

beer mo.jpg

Beer drinkers  in our group chose a Peruvian Beer – Cusquena . The finest lager from South America.  Although they secretly wished for a beer on Tap.

cheese fritters.jpg

The staff at Mo strongly recommended a few Hot & Cold Mezze dishes & we all blindly followed . Fried Hallumi Cheese with Herb Crust. This robust, salty cheese can withstand grilling or frying as it keeps its shape and adopts a meaty texture. It was an interesting Moroccan rendition of our very own Indian Samosas. Loved it!

hummous mo.jpg

Hummus Puree of chickpeas with tahini, garlic and lemon juice. Served with toasted pitta bread.  North African cuisine would almost be considered incomplete without Hummus & Pitta Bread. Spread each slice of bread with a generous helping of hummus & enjoy !

Chargrilled Chicken Skewers ,Marinated with ginger, coriander & garlic. Served with a yoghurt dip. Grilled chicken goes great with drinks making for a nice light nibble.

lamb sausages.jpg

MERGUEZ Spicy lamb sausages. Its a complete powerhouse of spicy and earthy flavor. Strongly recommended.

Traditionally it is most common to enjoy Hookah after a meal or with coffee, tea, and dessert.

The inside section is dimly lit, hence the picture quality. The flight of stairs take you into a hidden den . Go closer & you will find a full fledged night club . Now that’s a Bonus !

mo antiques

All items displayed and hanging lamps in the café are on sale; they sell some books, CDs & Antique jewels too.  Don’t forget to get yourself a piece of Moroccan Delight !

MO undoubtedly is the best kept Moroccan secret in the heart of Central London. This post only covers Mo Cafe & terrace which has limited menu & Alfresco dining space. Watch this space as i will be visiting again to experience the delights of Momo restaurant as the main restaurant has a lot more to offer in-terms of Food, Drinks & Ambiance .

I’ll be back soon MO, i miss you already !!
